Deckmaster Car Park Surfacing Systems On Show At White City

A massive car park refurbishment programme at Westfield London Shopping Centre in White City has been completed successfully using flooring specialists Resdev’s Deckmaster systems, creating a high performance floor which accurately reflects the calibre of the shopping experience at the site.

When it opened in October 2008, Westfield London was the largest covered shopping development in the capital and the second largest commercial centre in the UK. An extension which will open in Spring of this year will double the size of the facility, making it the largest shopping centre in Europe.

High quality car parking facility

Refurbishment of the 80,000m2 car park was planned as an integral part of the upgrade, designed to take the customer experience to a new level from the moment of their arrival on site, using colour and finish to reinforce styling and brand identity.

In the run-up to the project, Deckmaster product samples had been laid in the existing car park three years previously to assess performance over time. As a result of these trials, the Deckmaster products were selected not just for the refurbishment of the existing car park but also for the new build car park being constructed alongside to service the increased number of visitors anticipated at Westfield London.

Achieving a premium finish with a gloss UVR coating

The work on site was completed by Roadgrip Ltd, specialists in car parking and highway surfacing. To achieve the premium finish required, the Roadgrip team took the flooring back to bare concrete before applying the Deckmaster damp proof membrane, blinded with quartz to achieve optimum non-slip properties.

The company then applied Deckmaster’s proprietary UVR solvent free coating in the Westfield brand colours, creating an attractive gloss surface finish. Line markings and signage were also incorporated using the yellow discs and directional markings specified by the client. Branding and colour specification was continued into automotive manufacturers’ reserved bays on the site to create a high quality, aesthetically pleasing finish.

To meet completion deadlines, floor preparation work was carried out overnight, with round the clock shifts implemented to combat the challenges presented by cold winter weather and extended curing times.
